Zelensky refused Russia’s proposal for a territorial exchange. He recorded a morning address in which he rejected any possibility of Ukrainian troops retreating in Donbas.
This decision is surely a joint decision with the European war party, that is, with Macron, Starmer, Merz.
And this decision is against Trump, who already announced yesterday that a territorial exchange is being prepared and that it will be very good.
The consequences of this decision by Zelensky and the European war party are not yet clear.
At best, the outcome of this two-pronged approach is if Trump states that Zelensky is an obstacle to peace and therefore the US will restore relations with Russia, regardless of the Ukrainian war.
The US is terminally exhausted and cannot continue spending itself into bankruptcy. So, Trump is bailing out, folds up its tent and leaves the battlefield.
It is historical, in a sense, but not a first. It did the same in Korea and then in Vietnam, which remains the historical real point of inflection, from which the US continues its retreat from the vast reach it once and briefly had.
This is to be remembered only as the second historical climbdown from the unipolar peak.
